Patricia Painton Scholarships

Every year, in memory of Patricia Painton, a founding member of WICE, the Paris Writers Workshop awards two half-tuition scholarships to PWW Registrants. To be considered for a scholarship, registrants should submit no more than 10 pages of prose or 5 poems in accordance with the General Guidelines for Manuscripts. Submissions must be postmarked no later than April 30. Finalists will be notified by June 15, and the winners announced during the course of the Workshop. The refund on fees paid will be made during the PWW session. Submissions should be mailed to:

Writers' Conferences & Centers Scholarship Competition

Association of Writers & Writing Programs

The Writers' Conferences & Centers conducts an annual competition to provide scholarships for emerging writers who wish to attend a writers' conference, center, retreat, festival, or residency. The scholarships will be applied to fees to attend any of the members of WC&C, an association of outstanding conferences, colonies, and festivals for writers.

The competition is open to all writers who would like to attend a WC&C member program. Two scholarships of $500 will be awarded. For Guidelines: http://writersconf.org/scholarship

Mission Statement

The Paris Writers Workshop is committed to providing inspiration and high-level instruction on craft to writers of all skill levels in a supportive environment. The PWW celebrates the diversity of voices within its community of writers.

The Paris Writers' Workshop is organized by WICE, a non-profit, organization founded in 1978 that offers innovative, educational courses and programs for the Anglophone community in Paris.

Meet Marcia and John, the people who made this year's PWW happen.

Marcia Lèbre

Marcia Mead Lèbre, who has lived in France since 1973, is a poet, translator, and teacher.... She attended her first Paris Writers Workshop in 1992 as a beginning writer and discovered her vocation as a poet. After participating in several more PWW's, she returned to graduate school and earned a M.F.A. at Bennington College She has directed the Paris Writers Workshop since 1998.

John Baxter

John Baxter was born in Australia but has written and taught in London, Dublin, Los Angeles and, for the last 18 years, in Paris. He is the author of more than 40 books, including We'll Always Have Paris: Sex and Love in the City of Light, A Pound of Paper; Confessions of a Book Addict, the forthcoming Immoveable Feast; A Paris Christmas, and biographies of Robert DeNiro, Federico Fellini, Stanley Kubrick and Woody Allen.
