Who Can Participate?
The Paris Writers' Workshop welcomes all adults seeking to improve their writing skills – newcomers as well as the more experienced. Courses and lectures are conducted in English, so a high degree of proficiency is required in persons for whom this is not their first language.
Each week-long workshop is limited to 12 participants, and 3-day workshops to 15 participants. Places are allocated in the order that we receive registrations.
How to choose a workshop
Be clear about your goals and what you hope to achieve. Perhaps you wish to give new energy to your writing, in which case you might benefit from the intensive interaction of a Master Class. *If you are getting back to the page after a break or are just starting out, a course devoted to generating new work and enhancing creativity might appeal most. And if you have always wanted to explore a new genre, our 3-day workshops offer a wide range of possibilities. We also offer courses for established writers who wish to enhance their chances of publication.
(*Master Classes are open only to advanced writers who have had significant previous PWW or other writing experience. Acceptance is based on the strength and promise of the manuscript submitted. Enrollment is limited to 9 students.)
General Guidelines for Manuscripts
Note: Writers in Residence may have specific manuscript and page-limit requirements for their workshop. See their individual pages on this site for specific details.
- Submissions must be typed in a 12 pt. font, double-spaced, single-sided and unstapled. Margins should be 2.5 cm wide.
- Your name and a page number must appear on each sheet of the manuscript.
- Prose manuscripts excerpted from a longer project should include a one-page synopsis.
- Poets may submit from 3 to 6 poems for a total of 10 pages. Each new poem should start on a new page.
- Manuscripts may be used by the Writers in Residence in class as material for discussion and for individual consultations. Participants must bring enough copies of manuscripts to distribute to all members of their group. Please prepare these copies before you arrive as the Workshop has only limited reprographic facilities. The PWW is not responsible for lost originals or copies. Keep a copy for yourself.

Another PWW success story!
Natalia Sarkissian (PWW 2006) writes: "Congratulations on your lovely new website. I would love to attend PWW this year, but as a result of last year's short-story workshop with Manette Ansay I was awarded a merit scholarship by Vermont College, where I am currently enrolled! I can safely say it is all thanks to you and your wonderful program that my life has taken a new and unexpected turn."
